Sri Lanka government 2009 budget bill to parliament on Oct 9

Aug 07, 2008 (LBO) - The appropriation bill for Sri Lanka's budget for 2009 will be presented to parliament on October 9 for its first reading, the government said Thursday. The budget speech and second reading of the budget will be on November 6, a government spokesman said.

The cabinet this week approved a proposal by president Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is also finance minister, to prepare the budget.

The second reading debate and committee stage debate will be held during November 7-15 with the vote after the second reading to be taken at 6.00 pm on November 15.

The committee stage debate of the budget will be from November 17 to December 8 with the vote being taken on December 8 at 6.
