June 28, 2010 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s The Kandy Hotels Company plans to refurbish two hotels in the central hill country town of Kandy which is a major tourist attraction, a stock exchange filing said. Many hotels have started or announced plans for refurbishment and upgrades to cater to the anticipated influx of visitors. It said it plans to refurbish Hotel Suisse at a cost of 100-150 million rupees by November 2010 which will be in time for the island’s main tourist season during the northern hemisphere winter.

The firm’s Queens Hotel too would be refurbished in the 2011-12 financial year with details to be announced later.

Sri Lanka’s tourist industry has seen a sharp increase in visitors with the end of a 30-year ethnic war in May 2009.
