Sri Lanka inflation rises 9.8-pct in Jan 2013

January 31, 2013 (LBO) – Consumer prices in Sri Lanka rose to 9.8 percent in January 2013 from a year earlier accelerating from 9.2 percent a month earlier, official data showed. In January, the Sri Lanka's Central Bank said it aims to inflate the economy by about 7.0 percent in 2012 based on a monetary targeting framework where money supply and credit growth is taken into account.

The main Colombo Consumer Price Index rose to 170.0 points from 168.6 points recorded in December, the Census and Statistics Department said.

On a 12-month moving average, inflation for January rose to 8.1 percent as against 7.6 percent in December.
