Sri Lanka main opposition UNP elections Committee chooses Maithripala Sirisena as common candidate

Nov 21, 2014 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party’s newly appointed Group 20 or G 20 elections committee has chosen Maithripala Sirisena as their presidential candidate, media reports said.

It is also reported that General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party minister Maithripala Sirisena is to hold a special press conference today.

However the working committee of the United National Party is yet to approve the decision, UNP parliamentarian and G20 member Akila Viraj Kariyswasam told LBO.

The working committee meeting of the United National Party is scheduled to be held at 4.00 p.m, today.
