Sri Lanka Milk Foods starts new plant

Minister appoints Dr Swaminathan to IPACSL as Chairperson

Apr 02, 2010 (LBO) – Lanka Milk Foods (LMF), a milk powder packer which is part of Sri Lanka’s Distilleries group, said it has begun production at a new plant with a capacity of 9.5 million litres of cow milk. LMF acquired them in 2001 when it bought 90 percent of the shares of Ambewela Livestock Company and Pattipola Livestock Company. The firm said in a stock exchange filing that the new plant, built with an investment of 625 million rupees, produces flavoured milk in 180ml UHT pouch packs, yoghurt and cheese.

The new plant is operated by Ambewela Products, a fully-owned subsidiary of Lanka Milk Foods.

It produces, collects, processes, packs and sells milk and milk allied products.

LMF operates two farms producing cow milk that is processed, packed and sold under the ‘Ambewela Fresh Milk’ brand.
