Aug 22, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s consumer prices as measured by National Consumer Price Index declined to 5.8 percent in July from the 6.4 percent inflation reported a month earlier on yearly basis, data from the state statistics office showed.
In July, contribution to the inflation from food group and non-food group are 3.0 percent and 2.8 percent respectively.
National Consumer Price Index for the month was 115.2 and it shows a decrease of 0.9 index points or a percentage of 0.8 compared to the previous month’s index of 116.1.
State statistics office said this monthly change is due to the decreases of expenditure value of food items by 0.7 percent and non-food items by 0.1 percent.
The expenditure value of food commodity group has decreased by 0.7 percent in July 2016 compared to June 2016.
