“What we are trying to do is to get the industry and the experts together and make a policy through that,” Ranatunga said recently. “We are here to support not to make the decisions.” What we need, Ranatunga says is for all stakeholders, whether public or private, to create a shared national vision and objective. Maritime industry players say the new policy should be a public private partnership instead of being purely state driven like in China or industry driven like in South Korea.

“If you look at India they have policies for everything and if you look at us we don’t have policies for anything,” “When policies are there it is easy for the country to go forward.” Ranatunga further stated.
