Sri Lanka reduces prices of 13 essential goods with effect from Midnight today: Interim Budget 2015

Jan 29, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s new government will reduce the prices of 13 essential goods by removing of taxes, Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake said, presenting an interim budget for 2015. We only promised to reduces prices of 10 goods but we manage to increase into 13 goods due to the economic problems of the people face in the country, Karunanayake said.

The price reduction will take place with effect from midnight today he said. Sugar: Tax reduced from Rs.28 to Rs. 10

Milk powder 400g packet: Rs. 325 (maximum retail price) – 61 rupees of tax reduction

Sustagen milk powder to be reduced by 100 rupees (400g)

Flour prices will be reduced by 12.50 rupees per kilo

Bread prices will be reduced by 6 rupees

Green grams will be reduced by 40 rupees per kilo

Sprats will be reduced by 15 rupees

Canned fish will be reduced by 60 rupees

Coriander will be reduced by 60 rupees per kilo

Maldivian fish’s tax will be reduced by 200 rupees

Chilli powder will be reduced by 25 rupees (powdered)
