Apr 21, 2010 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's ruling party named its most senior member Disanayaka Mudiyanselage Jayaratne as the prime minister amid speculation that a cabinet of ministers that is now taking shape will be re-shuffled by year-end.

Rajapaksa has pledged to trim the cabinet to about 35 ministers after running his previous administration with more than a 100 ministers in an assembly of 225 members.

D M Jayaratne 78, representing Gampola in central Sri Lanka is the most senior sitting member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and was founder member of the party.

Rajapaksa's second term in office is due to begin in November 2010 after he won presidential polls in January.
