Sri Lanka stocks close 0.7-pct

Dec 14, 2011 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s stocks closed 0.7 percent Wednesday amid thin trading while bond yields edged up, dealers and brokers said. Colombo’s benchmark All Share Index fell 43.6 points to 5,950.99 points and the Milanka Index of more liquid stocks fell 39.2 points to 5,228.4 points or 0.75 percent.

Asha Central Hospital fell 34 rupees in 182.00 rupees, Asian Alliance Insurance fell 3.0 rupees 166.00.

Dialog Axiata closed flat at 7.80 rupees amid strong speculation that a deal to buy Suntel, a fixed access wireless telco was imminent.

Colonial Motors rose 17.0 rupees to 399.60 rupees and Asiri Surgical Hospital rose 10 cents to 7.60 rupees.

Aviva NDB Insurance fell 14.50 rupees to 235.50 rupees and Ceylon Tobacco fell 26.70 rupees to 453.00 rupees.

In debt markets yields of bonds maturing in 2015 edged above 10 percent, dealer said.
