Sri Lanka stocks close down 0.5-pct

Feb 17, 2016 – Sri Lanka’s stocks closed down at 0.53 percent with low investor activity due to economic and policy uncertainty, brokers said. The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) closed 33.34 points down at 6,220.82 down 0.53 percent. The S&P SL20 closed 0.43 points down at 3,242.31 down 14.00 percent. Turnover was 425 million rupees, down from 360 million rupees Tuesday with 29 stocks closing positive against 117 negative. The main index was dragged down by losses in Distilleries Company closing down at 210.50 rupees, down 5.00 rupees and Lanka IOC closed at 30.10 rupees, down 1.90 rupees. Profits at Lanka IOC rose 45 percent to 882 million rupees in the December quarter, interim accounts release on Monday showed but in the nine months to December 2015 profits at Lanka IOC, fell 77 percent to 680 million rupees. John Keells Holdings closed at 157.00 rupees, down 0.70 rupees. Foreign participation was on the buying side recording a net foreign inflow of 91.9 million rupees.
