Sri Lanka stocks close down 0.7-pct

Aug 05, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's stocks closed down 0.68 percent Monday with losses in the large cap stocks and banking stocks, brokers said.

The benchmark Colombo All Share Index closed 0.68 points lower at 6,114.18 and the S&P SL 20 Index closed 19.10 points lower at 3,471.47 down 0.55 percent.

Turnover was 288 million rupees down from 399 million rupees Friday.

Foreigners brought 114 million rupees worth shares while selling 143 million rupees of shares, in a day that 49 stocks advanced and 134 stocks declined.

John Keells Holdings contributed most to the index closing at 267.90 rupees up 1.90 rupees. Dialog Axiata closed at 8.70 rupees up 0.10 rupees and Union Assurance closed at 99.00 rupees up 5.70 rupees.

Negative contributors were Ceylinco Insurance closing at 1,130.50 rupees down 119.50 rupees and Nestle Lanka closed at 1,950.00 down 39.00 rupees and Sri Lanka Telecom closed at 39.50 down 0.70 rupees.

In the banking sector, Sampath Bank closed at 197.60 rupees down 2.40 rupees, Pan Asia closed at 17.60 rupees down 0.20 rupees. DFCC closed at 128.30 rupees down 0.70 rupees and Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed at 119.00 down 0.60 rupees.
