Sri Lanka stocks close up 0.2-pct

July 26, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's stocks closed up 0.23 percent on Friday with large cap stocks and some banking stocks showing gains, brokers said. C T Holdings contributed most to the index closing at 144.90 rupees up 8.70 rupees. John Keells Holdings closed at 268.00 up 1.00 rupee and Nestle Lanka closed at 1.912.70 rupees up 11.30 rupees. N D B Capital holdings closed at 487.50 rupees up 30.00 rupees.

Negative contributors were Union Assurance closing at 95.40 rupees down 9.30 rupees. Ceylon Tobacco Company closed at 980.10 down 05.00 rupees and Commercial Bank closed at 116.10 rupees down 0.50 rupees..

In the banking sector, Sampath Bank closed at 202.10 up 2.10 rupees, Pan Asia closed at 18.10 up 0.10 rupees. DFCC closed at 128.90 rupees up 1.80 rupees and Hatton National Bank closed at 154.00 rupees down 1.00 rupee.

Distilleries Company closed at 190.20 rupees up 10 cents while Aitken Spence closed at 124.90 down 20 cents.

The benchmark Colombo All Share Index closed 13.61 points higher at 6,051.77 and the S&P SL 20 Index closed 04.39 points higher at 3,427.48 up 0.13 percent.

Turnover was 403 million rupees up from 290 million Thursday. Market turnover for the week was recorded at 1.39 billion rupees, posting an average daily turnover of 348.37 million rupees.

Foreigners brought 123 million rupees worth shares while selling 36 million rupees of shares, in a day that 93 stocks advanced and 75 stocks declined.
