Sri Lanka stocks close up 0.4-pct

Oct 30, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.47 percent higher helped by tobacco and consumer goods stocks and strong foreign purchasing, brokers said. Touchwood ended up 20 cents to 4.10 rupees.

PCH Holdings closed flat at 1.70 rupees and PC House closed flat at 80 cents.

NDB Bank closed flat at 158.00 rupees and Union Bank closed 20 cents lower at 17.70 rupees. The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index closed 27.88 points higher at 5,934.41, up 0.47 percent, after reaching an intra-day high of 5,940.13.

The S&P SL20 closed 5.20 points higher at 3,265.82, up 0.16 percent, after reaching an intraday high of 3,273.54.

Turnover was 942.65 million rupees, up from 528.71 million a day earlier, with stocks of 92 firms closing in the red against 75 gainers.

Dialog had an off market transaction worth 490 million at 9.00 rupees a share.

Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 17.00 rupees higher at 1,125.00 rupees and Lanka Orix Leasing Company closed 5.00 rupees higher at 65.00 rupees, contributing most to the index gain.

Nestle Lanka closed 27.40 rupees higher at 1,938.20 rupees and Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 1.60 rupees lower at 116.10 rupees.

Commercial Leasing and Finance closed flat at 3.90 rupees.

Cargills Ceylon closed 2.90 rupees higher at 151.00 rupees and Sri Lanka Telecom closed 10 cents lower at 39.00 rupees.

Distilleries closed 1.50 rupees higher at 186.50 rupees.

JKH closed flat at 219.90 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed 2.00 rupees higher at 685.00 rupees and Ceylinco Insurance closed flat at 400.00 rupees.
