Sri Lanka think tank World Bank starts online debate on better jobs

Mar 01, 2012 (LBO) – An online discussion based on a report by Sri Lanka’s Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) and the World Bank on creating better jobs has been started using ‘Google Moderator’, to invite more public discussion. “Sri Lanka is in a new phase of growth, but the development challenges are many. Unemployment rates overall may be low, but youth unemployment is high,” IPS researcher Anushka Wijesinghe said.

“A/L-qualified (high school) youth have the highest unemployment rate. Sri Lanka needs to create more jobs, but also better jobs – in keeping with changing aspirations and a changing world scenario.”

The discussion is hosted on the Google Moderator
page http://www.google.com/moderator/#16/e=1ef771.

The report was launched on Thursday with a panel discussion which was webcast live
