Sri Lanka to appoint committee to inquire land issue in North: Media Report

Feb 10, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s new administration to appoint a committee in order to commence the programme of releasing lands in the North back to civilians, a media report said quoting the State Minister for Defence Ruwan Wijewardene in Vavuniya. This decision was taken on a directive of the President Siresena.

The report said that the lands in the North and East Provinces will be released back to civilians in a fair manner after discussing with Resettlement Minister D.M. Swaminathan and members of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).

Quoting the minister the report said that there would not be a necessity to remove army troops in the North in order to release lands required by the civilians.
