Sri Lanka to create an even playing field for investments: Legislator

Jan 19, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka would create an even playing field in order to attract investors and new projects, Deputy Minister of Investment Promotions Eran Wickramaratne told the LBO. The reason is because Sri Lanka pays a lot of money for these projects and we did not even know how much we are overpaying because we have no way of establishing price on lot of things,

We will welcome unsolicited projects, we have no problem people coming in for those projects. But we will make sure that we establish a competitive process in defining the price.

Commenting on the five hub strategy of the former government Wickramaratne said that new government is not much in to slogans.

Former government said it would develop the Indian Ocean Island under five hub visions which included Marine, Aviation, Commercial, Energy and Knowledge.

We are not much in to slogans, Wickramaratne said.

We will look at them, because some of those make sense and there are other areas like service sector need much more attention.

He said three are FTAs (Free Trade Aagreements) and new markets which Sri Lanka could fit into in proving services.
