Sri Lanka to construct houses for families affected by the conflict

Sep 24, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka plans to call for proposals from interested local and foreign parties to build houses for families affected by conflict, the government’s media spokesman, Rajitha Senaratne, said.







He said the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Affairs is mandated with the responsibility of resettlement of families and construction of houses for the conflict affected people in the Northern and Eastern Provinces on a priority basis.

The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) has also strongly emphasized the need to fulfill the shelter requirements in the conflict affected areas.

The total housing requirement is 137,529.

These houses are planned in addition to 44,000 houses supported by Indian government. The proposal made by Hon. D.M. Swaminathan, Minister of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Affairs, to invite proposals from interested local and foreign parties, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
