Sri Lanka to revive exporters’ forum

Apr 01, 2011 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Minister of Industry and Commerce has decided to revive a regular meeting with exporters which allowed them to air grievances and get speedy solutions for problems. The Exporters’ Forum will be conducted with the Export Development Board (EDB), a government agency tasked with supporting exporters.

The decision to revive the forum was revealed by Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen at the annual general meeting of the Apparel Exporters Association of Sri Lanka Thursday.

"The Exporters' Forum is a ˜one-stop shop solutions mechanism’ for exporters and its once in two months meetings were well attended by exporters before the sessions were temporarily stopped," a ministry statement said.

"The forum helped problems of exporters to be discussed freely with the relevant public sector institutional representatives and other connected agencies and speedy resolutions were given," it said.

Very soon the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the EDB will recommence the Exporters' Forum so that any issues affecting your performance will be addressed, Bathiudeen said.
