Sri Lanka to set up University for Police and Criminal Justice

June 06, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s government is looking to establish a separate University for Police and Criminal Justice similar to that of the Melbourne Deakin University, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.







“This university is not based on the university structure of Sri Lanka or United Kingdom,” the Prime Minister emphasized.



“This will be based on the Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia where there is a Vice Chancellor who heads the board like in the United States.” Prime Minister was addressing the International Industrial Mathematics Conference 2016, organized by the Department of Mathematics, University of Sri Jayawardenapura. The premier has instructed the Minister of Law Sagala Ratnayake to carry out work to set up this university which will offer a degree level course in Police Criminology.









Entry into the degree course will be based on A level results but officers currently serving in Police will also be given the opportunity to study.
