Feb 08, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals were up 24.3 percent to 194,280 in January 2016 from a year ago, latest statistics show.
Arrivals from India grew 26 percent to 28,895 in January 2016 from a year ago while Chinese visitors rose 122 percent to 26,083, data from the tourism office said.
In Europe, in the United Kingdom visitors up 21 percent to 16,253 in January 2016 from a year ago while Germany arrivals rose 23 percent to 12,760. Italian arrival also rose 52.4 percent to 4,131 visitors from an year ago.
Middle Eastern visitors grew to 10,109, up 14.7 percent with Saudi Arabia growing 24.8 percent with 3,813 visitors.
A 10 percent drop was seen in Russian arrivals totaling 8,358.
