Sri Lanka Islamic insurer offers cover for deaf people

Jan 06, 2009 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’a Amana Takaful Insurance, an Islamic insurer, said it has started a cover for deaf people in partnership with a disabled group in the south of the island.

Amana Takaful, a 10-year old firm, is in both general and life insurance.

The cover will first offer to some 1,500 members of the Southern Province Deaf Association (SRDA).

The association’s members are involved in industries such as textile, carpentry, batik and electrical work.

“We are pleased to be working with the SRDA. This has given us an opportunity to realize their aspirations and be able to help them plan their futures,” Gayan Caldera, assistant sales manager for the southern region said in a statement.

“We are looking forward to working closely with the association in the future as well and taking this to other Associations in the country.”
