Sri Lanka’s Appropriation Bill 2018 before Parliament today

Oct 09, 2017 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's state Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne will present the Appropriation Bill to parliament on 09th October 2017.

The bill provides for the service of the financial year 2018.

According to the bill presented to the Cabinet by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera earlier, the government expenditure is estimated at 3.982 trillion rupees in 2018 which includes the capital and recurrent expenses. However the estimated income for the government is 2.175 trillion rupees inclusive of donations and grants.

The government has allocated a spend of 290.7 billion rupees for the Defense Ministry while the Pensions Department had been allocated 181 billion rupees and Health services 178.39 billion rupees. The Finance Minister is scheduled to present the 2018 Budget speech on 9 November followed by the debate on the second reading of the Budget on 10 November and continue for a further five days. The committee stage process will commence on 16 November and continue until 8 December 2017. The third and final reading division of budget 2018 will be made on 9 December 2017.
