Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister ready to debate with former Finance Minister, Rajapaksa

June 3, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka new administration's Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that he is ready to participate in a public debate on the country's current economic situation.

Issuing a Statement Tuesday (02), Karunanayake said that it is better if former President Mahinda Rajapaksa can participate for the debate since he was the former Finance Minister of the past regime. However he also stated, that he is ready to debate with Bandula Gunawardane, former Minister of Education who held no post related to finance, if Rajapaksa has any doubt or problem to participate for a debate.

Sri Lanka’s opposition Parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardane challenged Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake or the Minister of Policy Planning and Economic Development. Deputy Minister Harsha de Silva said that he is ready for a debate on any television channel over the current economic status in the country, at a press conference held recently. Replying to that, Deputy Minister Harsha de Silva said in on a Facebook post, “Me or Ravi have been challenged for a debate by parliamentarian Bandula. Yes, I'm ready for a good technical debate about the economy.” Gunawardane has told media that he is ready to debate economic factors such as Central Bank bond issue, interest rates, unemployment and the exchange rate.
