Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar has been shot and critically wounded by an unidentified attacker in the capital, police and doctors say Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar has been shot and critically wounded by an unidentified attacker in the capital, police and doctors say Kadirgamar, 73, was shot on Friday night near his tightly guarded home in Colombo, possibly by a sniper who targeted him while he was driving in his car, police sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“He was rushed to the National Hospital,” one police official said.

A doctor at the hospital said Kadirgamar had suffered a head injury and was in a critical condition.

He was undergoing emergency surgery involving two neurosurgeons and two cardiothoracic surgeons. – AFP
