May 09, 2014 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s exports rose 26 percent from a year earlier to 1,060 million US dollars in March 2014 with apparels rising 31.9 percent to 454 million rupees, provisional data released by the commerce ministry showed. Tourist arrivals from the area have also gone up.
Tea exports rose 19 percent to 154 million rupees. Industrial exports were up 25.5 percent to 784 million US dollars.
The ministry quoting Export Development Board data said exports rose 15.7 percent to 2.8 billion US dollars in the first quarter of 2014, from last year’s 2.36 billion US dollars.
Sri Lanka has seen a strong pick-up in exports from the last quarter of 2013 driven by a recovery in the US and European markets.
