The People's Liberation Front, known in Sri Lanka by the acronym JVP, said they wanted an immediate investigation into the activities of foreign non-governmental agencies and their staff.

"We hope that you, as the person responsible for national security, will take immediate steps in this regard," the JVP said in a three-page letter released to the media and addressed to President Chandrika Kumaratunga.

Kumaratunga depends on the JVP for survival in parliament where her own party is in a minority. There has been friction between Kumaratunga and the JVP over the handling of international relief aid.
