May 12, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s ruling United National Party on Tuesday challenged those demanding the former President as Prime Ministerial candidature to show their majority in Parliament.

Deputy General Secretary of UNP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam told reporters that the opposition is boasting to bring a no confidence motion against Prime Minister.

“We challenge them to show 113 Parliamentarians for their demand in Parliament. Indeed people in the country have no confidence in the former President. That’s why he was defeated at the last election.” Kariyawasam said.

Kariyawasam also criticized former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa for creating an unnecessary panic over the conduct of Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division.

“I don’t know why they are afraid of these investigations; if they haven’t done anything wrong.” Kariyawasam said.
