July 11, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s United National Party is to contest the upcoming general election as the United National Front for Good Governance under 'elephant' symbol, former Deputy Minister of Policy Planning Dr.

Harsha de Silva said. The unanimous decision has been taken at the 2015 UNP Special Convention held at the Campbell Park, Colombo. “UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe got the unanimous approval at the National Convention to contest the August 17 election as the United National Front,” Silva said. “The UNF (United National Front) for Good Governance will include many of the good people of other parties who worked with us at the January 8 rainbow revolution.

” It has also been decided to register the ‘United National Front for Good Governance’ as a separate political party after the elections. Meanwhile speaking at the convention Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said price of a domestic gas cylinder will be reduced by 100 rupees and price of one Kilogram of red rice will be reduced to 60 rupees from 15 July 2015.
