Feb 08, 2012 (LBO) – SriLankan Airlines has called on all economy class passengers to check in an hour before scheduled time of departure in a move to ease congestion at the airport. “All SriLankan Airlines economy class check in counters will close 60 minutes before scheduled time of departure from February 01, 2012,” a statement said.
The move is to “ensure a swift and smooth check in for passengers”, it said.
“The change is expected to achieve optimum utilization of the infrastructure at Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo.”
The airport, just north of the capital, has been experiencing congestion amid a boom in tourist arrivals after the end of the island’s 30-year ethnic war in 2009.
SriLankan Airlines provides ground services for all airlines that operate through Bandaranaike International Airport and an average of 70 departures are handled by SriLankan staff daily.
SriLankan Airlines opens check-in counters three hours before flight departures and boarding gates 90 minutes before departure, the national carrier said.
