May 05, 2013 (LBO) – State-run SriLankan Airilines said it had signed up Wirecard, a German payment gateway operator which will make online bookings faster and safer, as part of moves to join oneoworld, a global alliance of carriers. Wirecard provides payment processing, card issuing and risk management services to more than 10,000 companies worldwide.
“As part of our planned membership of the oneworld alliance, we were looking for a reliable partner for our online payment processing, which also possesses the international experience that our broad global flight network requires,” SriLankan Airlines head of worldwide sales, Lal Perera said in a statement.
SriLankan is on track to become a full member of oneworld alliance in 2014. Sri Lankan has a network spanning 64 destinations in 34 countries.
SriLankan said Wirecard will provide a faster and more stable payment gateway for customers outside Sri Lanka and they will be able to use credit cards that were not accepted earlier.
The payment gateway also had a sophisticated prevention system and could detect suspicious online bookings.
