Nov 27, 2006 (LBO) – Sri Lanka Ports Authority has signed a terminal service agreement with Wan-Hai lines of Taiwan to increase container traffic to the island. The three-year Terminal Service Agreement (TSA) will bring in a guaranteed amount of volume for the SLPA, says Irshad Musheen Executive Director of SLPA.
“We are actually pleased as ports authority to have a commitment from them, they have signed for three years which means they bring in a guaranteed amount of volume for the ports authority,” Musheen said at the signing of the agreement Monday.
“I have confidence over Colombo. In the future I see the Colombo port as the (one of the) largest hubs in South Asia,” Wayne Tseng Chief of Wan Hai Lines India told reporters.
Apart from incoming volume, the terminal in return has to maintain productivity levels and certain commitments to the shipping line.
“When it comes to berthing and berthing windows there is a certain amount of commitment from the terminal,” the Director said.
