The industry is targeting a million arrivals by next year and expects this years figure to be around eight hundred thousand arrivals.

Tourist Board is also putting heavy emphasis on human resource development in the industry.

“Today we have a student cadre of 120, by January 2005 it will be 240 and by June 2005 we expect to have 540. And every six months we will be increasing the cadre. Simultaneously we have planned satellite hotel schools. The first purpose-built hotel school will be commissioned on January 1, 2005 in the Uva province,” says Udaya Nanayakkara, Chairman, Tourist Board.
