A forward market interface for the agro sector is part of an initial set of ten pilot projects, picked to kick off the e-Sri Lanka initiative.
The pilot projects will test the waters before embarking on a grand scale migration towards electronic information dissemination, rural and state sector empowerment. rn
rnThe Information Communications and Technology Agency (ICT Agency) picked the ten projects, after weeding through over 150 responses coming from a diverse spheres of specialities. rn
rnOfficials say each project is expected to showcase the potential of the digital age in disseminating information and enabling poverty reduction initiatives. rn
rnA public registry that will streamline people registration from birth, will also be in the initial set of projects, along with an electronic money order processing system and a project to standardise Sinhala language fonts for use with computers and on the internet. rn
rnThe pilots are also a forerunner to a number of e-government initiatives tha
