June 18, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s President would not allow the comeback of former President Mahinda Rajapakse, and the party will not give nomination to him in the forthcoming general election, Cabinet spokesmen Rajitha Senaratne told reporters today in Colombo.
“The six member committee of the SLFP met the President last evening and asked whether former President Rajapakse can contest for prime minister, but President Sirisena said no,” Senaratne told reporters.
“Then they asked whether he can come from the National List and the President said no and they asked whether the party will give nomination to Rajapakse and the President said no,”
“As a party we want to produce people like Mandela not the people like Mugabe.” Senaratne said.
A six member committee was appointed to coordinate between President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, with regard to the future affairs of the United People’s Freedom Alliance on Tuesday (16) this month.
