Dispute arose after the board objected to the General Manager of the CEB signing an MOU with a Chinese company, to build a coal plant on the west cost, over a protocol issues.

The board says the Chairman should have signed the deal but the General Manager contends he had government clearance to sign on behalf of the CEB.

Loss making CEB’s engineers meanwhile are angered by the Chairman’s moves in calling for reasons from the General Manager.

CEB, the giant government owned electricity monopoly, is thought to have lost around Rs. 10 billion in the first eight months of the year compared to a Rs. 15.1 billion loss last year.

Its Chairman says the electricity utility continues to lose around Rs. 45 million a day because it sells power below cost.
