Air Asia X starts flying to Sri Lanka and Maldives

Sept 24, 2013 (LBO) - Malaysia-based AirAsia X, a low cost long-haul carrier said it is starting flights to Sri Lanka's Colombo via Male, Maldives from September 28. "Our guests may now fly to Sri Lanka to take in the rich flavours and cultures that Colombo has to offer, and also to Maldives for a quick scenic and relaxing getaway," Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X said.

"Both places have their very own unique charm and we are pleased to offer our guests more destination choices for their travel and holiday getaways.

AirAsia's booking engine is now offering 11,352 rupees on the Colombo-Kuala Lumpur sector and 9,285 return (totaling 156 US dollars) before luggage and food fees on promotional fares and 266 for Male-Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia based AirAsia stopped flying to Colombo in March with group chief Tony Fernandez saying the 3.5 hour journey was too long for its operational pattern.

Now the route has been taken by AirAsia X, the group arm which operates long haul flights with a stopover in Male.
