Anti corruption movement urges President to reveal secrets

President-of-Sri Lanka-Maithripala-Sirisena-2

Aug 23, 2016 (LBO) – A Sri Lankan anti corruption movement, Voice Against Corruption, today urged the President to reveal the hidden secrets of the former President and his allies as per the mandate of the people. In a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena, Convener of the movement Wasantha Samarasinghe said it is the aspiration of the people who voted him in to restore democracy in the country by the revealing of corrupt politicians.

The President speaking at the first ceremony to mark the five years way ahead of the consensual government threatened to reveal ‘all secrets’ if a new party was created by the joint opposition. “The secrets you mentioned can be the looting of public property, as well as anti-democratic actions by former President and his family rule,” Samarasinghe said.

Samarasinghe said hiding those secrets will be a serious matter and the people have a right to know about these things whether a new party was formed or not. The movement emphasized that detaining secrets without revealing them goes against the mandate of the people who voted in the election. “During the last few months of the Rajapakse government, they used the same method by keeping the important intelligence information hidden for a political witch-hunt,” Samarasinghe said. The movement called the President to earnestly implement the law by revealing information about all corrupt acts carried out during the previous administration.
