Apr 09, 2012 (LBO) - The two latest disappearances in Sri Lanka has prompted appeals from family members and the Australian envoy to Colombo as one of the disappeared is a national of that country, media reports said. An Australian media report said Gunaratnam's wife had pleaded for his release from Australia.

Premakumar Gunaratnam, the leader of a breakaway faction of Sri Lanka's Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and a female activist, Dimuthu Attygalle were reported missing Friday shortly before a convention of their newly formed party scheduled for April 09.

Sri Lanka's The Island newspaper reported that Australia's high commissioner (ambassador) to Colombo had expressed concern about Gunaratnam's disappearance who was said to have Australian nationality.

Sri Lankan authorities have asked for details of his passport and the date of arrival to prove his presence in the country, the newspaper said.

Gunaratnam's mother had also called a media conference yesterday and pleaded for his release.
