Arrest Move

October 6, 2010 (AFP) - Sri Lankan police said Wednesday they were seeking the arrest of men and women who had starred in locally-made pornographic movies and would soon publish headshots in the newspapers. The Children’s and Women’s Bureau of the police said it planned to send photographs of the local porn stars to the mainstream press and would ask for public cooperation to identify them, a police official said.

"We are moving slowly to arrest the suspects involved in acting as well as producing pornographic movies," the official said, without saying how many people were wanted.

A list of people will be filed in court on Thursday, he said, adding that the bureau had already moved court to ban 180 Sri Lankan porn sites showing locally-made videos.

The Sri Lankan Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has been asked to prevent users in the country accessing the websites.

The move followed complaints heard at Colombo's Juvenile Court that children had free access to the websites featuring Sri Lankans.

Other adult sites featuring non-Sri Lankans will remain available, however. Sri Lanka already maintains an unofficial ban on websites of dissidents by getting local Internet
