A bomb scare forced a London-bound Sri Lankan Airlines plane to return to the island's only international airport here 40 minutes after take off Monday, an official said. Flight UL-501 was asked to turn back to the Bandaranaike International Airport after the control tower received an anonymous call warning of a bomb planted abroad the Airbus A-340 aircraft carrying 258 passengers and 15 crew.

A Sri Lankan Airlines spokesman said passengers disembarked the aircraft in an orderly manner and there were no casualties. The aircraft and its cargo were being checked by the Sri Lankan airforce.
