Feb 15, 2013 (LBO) – An annual country music concert will be held for the 25th time in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo to raise funds for needy children with European and US performance along local artistes performing, its organizers said. Colombo-base Country Music Foundation said its ‘Country Roads’ festival is the longest running concert of its kind in South Asia. It was founded by Feizal Samath, a journalist and Juragan Majid, a marketing professional.
This year’s concert which will be held on Sunday 6.30 pm at Colombo Hilton will see Mavericks, a group from Germany, Astrid Brook from UK, Bob Livingston from the US and Sri Lanka’s Cosmic Rays and Mariazelle taking part.
“We are excited and looking forward to an event amidst a journey that has taken us across to all four corners of the country, helping thousands of children with basic needs¦,” Samath said in a statement.
This year the concert hopes is working with UNICEF to raise one million rupees to set up three child friendly courts outside Colombo.
