Cocaine detected by employees of Lanka Sathosa in container

July 20, 2017 (LBO) - A haul of 150 Kg of cocaine has been detected by employees of Lanka Sathosa in a container addressed to CWE (Sathosa) on Wednesday.





The detection was made at the warehouse of CWE (Sathosa) Rathmalana Economic Centre.

"A tender bid for sugar supplies, was called on 18 July 2017 by CWE (Sathosa) and a private sector sugar supplier called Ranjitha Traders was selected on the same day due to their fulfillment of specified tender criteria," a statement said. "The qualified Ranjitha Traders thereafter has dispatched this sugar container to CWE warehouse at Ratmalana Economic Centre.

" The country of origin of the container is Brazil. Upon arrival of the container to Colombo Port, the container was taken to Orugodawatta Container Terminal Yard was inspected and re-sealed.





Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen commended employees of Lanka Sathosa, Rathmalana for spotting the contents and informing the Police. Police investigations are continuing.
