Commemorative coin to mark 150th anniversary of CMC

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) issued a special silver uncirculated commemorative coin with a face value of Rs.500 to mark the 150th Anniversary of Colombo Municipal Council in recognition of its service to the country.



The commemorative coin was officially presented to Mr.



Ranil Wickramasinghe, Hon. Prime Minister and Mr. Ravi Karunanayake, Hon. Minister of Finance by Mr. Arjuna Mahendran, the Governor of CBSL, at the ceremony held at the premises of Colombo Municipal Council on 14 December 2015.



The obverse of the coin depicts the design of the 150th Anniversary logo of the Colombo Municipal Council with the years “1865” and “2015” on either side. The words “MARVEL OF COHESION” and “150 ANNIVERSARY” in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages appears at the bottom of the design.

The words “COLOMBO MUNICIPAL COUNCIL” in English, Sinhala and Tamil languages appear on the periphery of the coin. The reverse of the coin depicts the face value “500” in large numerals in the center with the words “Five Hundred Rupees” in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages just below.





The words ‘Sri Lanka” in Tamil, Sinhala and English languages appear on the periphery with the year “2015” at the bottom edge of the coin.
