A cultural backlash and regulatory red tape is stifling growth for call centre operators, but a new formed Association says it wants to lobby for change. Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), back office operation, call centre operation or Information Technology enabled Services (ITeS) industry, call it what you may, the sector is tipped to be the next growth area for Sri Lanka, say the ICT Agency.

Of 23 companies operating here, nine of the big boys teamed up last week to define the sectors marketing strategies, battle for sector friendly policies and spruce up its image in the job market.

IT enable Services Association chief, Devapriya Perera says the industry needs an image boost in the job market, with most parents and job seekers unaware of the potential or have misunderstood the sector.

Perera says the Association will work together to roll out a campaign to tell locals the potential in the industry and that the industry was not a receptionists job, helping the sector attract the staf
