June 18, 2008 (LBO) – Sri Lanka's national cricket team captain Mahela Jayawardena has gone online with information technology company Cryptodyne to communicate with the island's youth and raise funds for a cancer hospital project. "The most important thing for me was to communicate with younger kids," Jayawardena told LBO at the inauguration of his website mahelajayawardena.lk in Colombo.

"I have been communicating with a lot of kids with their cricket problems, technical things and how they want to improve. That was huge for me because I did not have that direct link with those kids (before).

"The other important thing was to raise funds for my charity which is the whole cancer hospital project; there is a direct link from my website for that."

Jayawardena said the aim is to give free medical treatment for cancer patients.

The cancer treatment unit which is under construction is situated within the compound of the Cancer Hospital in Maharagama in the southern outskirts of Colombo.
