Delegation from China’s Guangdong province visit Sri Lanka

Apr 02, 2014 (LBO) - A high powered delegation from China's Guangdong provincial government had visited Sri Lanka and had expressed interest in fish processing, the state investment promotion office said. A Chinese firm is to reclaim the sea near Colombo port to build a new business district and many firms from the country are active in construction of projects funded by export credits.

The Chinese delegation was led by Li Jian, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong province, the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka said.

The delegation was visiting countries along the so-called 'maritime silk route'.

The Chinese side had sought more information on the fisheries sector particularly fish processing, the BOI said.

They were also interested in areas of pharmaceuticals, dairy products and textiles for the garment industry where the Sri Lanka state was pushing 'import substitution' the agency said.

Guandong is one of China's high growth industrial centres.
