The Inland Revenue says it will call for fresh applications for amnesty since the amnesty law of 2003 was repealed and a new law was introduced last month. “We will call for applications for amnesty again,” said Mr R M Jothipala, Commissioner-PAYE, Department of Inland Revenue, At a Ceylon Chamber of Commerce tax seminar on Monday.

Accordingly all declarations under the previous 2003 amnesty law, says the Inland Revenue, will be treated as “secret” and will not be investigated.

The taxmen are not committing on a date by which fresh applications will be called but say declarations made under the 2003 law can be resubmitted for amnesty cover.

“I can’t tell an exact date because the new law has not been certified by the Speaker yet, but we will put out notices asking people to re-apply for amnesty,” said Jothipala.

“People that made declarations earlier must re-apply with a copy of the old declaration,” said Jothipala.
