Fin Min says LPG supplies on the way

Nov 04, 2019 (LBO) -  Sri Lanka’s Finance Ministry says an emergency purchase of 12,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas is on its way following panic buying that was triggered earlier.

A ship with 3,600 metric tonnes of LPG reached Colombo on Saturday November 02, and another ship with 3,600 MT will reach Colombo on Tuesday, and yet another on Saturday, the Ministry said issuing a statement.

The purchase was done by state-run Litro Gas Plc.

“The emergency purchases will clear the shortage,” the Finance Ministry said. “People should not have undue fears.

A ship with 6,000MT of LPG, under standard procurement will also reach Colombo during the week.

The Consumer Protection Authority had raided 40 dealers who were selling gas at higher prices in the black market, the statement added.
