Fresh Look

Apr.03 (PTI) - The BBC today announced a re-broadcasting deal with Sri Lanka's state-run radio and said it was looking for possible joint ventures for Hindi and Urdu service channels in India. Sri Lanka's SLBC radio will re-broadcast nine hours of BBC programing under the new deal, BBC World Service business development manager Michel Lobelle told reporters here.

"We are launching a 24-hour news channel in Arabic from next year and we looking at TV services in Hindi and Urdu," he said. "they would be joint ventures."

The SLBC deal gives listeners in Sri Lanka easy access to BBC programs through a network of FM channels.

In India, the expansion of television saw a slight dip in radio listenership, but it was on the rise again with more people tuning into radios, he said.
